The general feel from Dallas Cowboys fans all over on Wednesday had to be the equivalent of one big collective heavy sigh. There's no worse way to begin training camp than with injuries and the Cowboys were dealt a major scare early on.
Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson was carted back to the locker room after "limping on his right leg," according to ESPN's Todd Archer. Hours later, after practice had wrapped up and Wilson had been further evaluated, the news came down and it brought mixed feelings.
As Archer later passed along, Wilson looks to have been diagnosed with a right calf strain and will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks. That's a tough outcome, as he'll miss all of camp, but the positive side of it is that, per Archer's report, the "belief" is that Wilson will be able to play in Week 1 against the New York Giants.
Wilson started all 17 games for the Cowboys last season, totaling a career-best 101 combined tackles (77 solo), nine quarterback hits, seven tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception. He's expected to play a big role for the Cowboys this coming season, so while his absence for the remainder of training camp will hurt, the outlook of him returning for the start of the season is huge.
