Could Rams Sign 49ers Free Agent Edge Rusher Chase Young?
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Rams could use some help with getting pressure on the quarterback, and they could find that help in their own division.

Recently, Bleacher Report outlined eight free agents who could strengthen a rival in their division. And for the NFC West, they made the case for San Francisco 49ers defensive end Chase Young potentially making his way to Los Angeles.

"While Byron Young racked up eight sacks as a rookie in 2023, the team's exterior pass rushers as a whole struggled to win consistently," Bleacher Report said. "The Rams have just under $40 million of cap space available this offseason, per Over The Cap, and stars like Aaron Donald and Matthew Stafford are getting close to retirement. It'd be worth it for them to swing big this offseason and make one last push for another Lombardi Trophy before Stafford and Donald hang 'em up."

Young was traded to the 49ers ahead of this past season's trade deadline in exchange for a third-round draft pick. Now that the former second-overall pick is trending upwards after his torn ACL in 2021, his price is the lowest that it's going to be.

He tallied 7.5 sacks this past season, tying his career-best that he set in his rookie season. This is the first healthy season that the 24-year-old has played since then, so his numbers are only going to continue to rise as he continues to improve.

The Rams already have a young defensive core, and if the team were to go and get Young in free agency from the 49ers, he could complement the rest of the roster very well and make for an intriguing fit.
