Commanders Cut OT Leno Jr.

FEB 4 COMMANDERS ADD DC The Washington Commanders hired Dan Quinn as their head coach, and now they have a defensive coordinator.

According to NFL insider Steve Wyche, the Commanders are officially hiring Dallas Cowboys assistant Joe Whitt Jr. as their defensive coordinator.

Whitt Jr., 45, has been with Quinn since 2020 with the Falcons and he followed him to the Cowboys in 2021. Now, the pair move to Washington in Whitt Jr.'s highest position yet.

JAN 31 SEAHAWKS HIRE MIKE MACDONALD The Seattle Seahawks are filling their head coaching vacancy today.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Seahawks have hired Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald as head coach after a lengthy decision-making process.

This leaves the Washington Commanders as the only team without a head coach.

JAN 30 BEN JOHNSON STAYS WITH LIONS The Washington Commanders won't be hiring Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson after he told the team he would remain in his current job for the 2024 season.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the former favorite for the Commanders job "spooked" teams with his asking price and wasn't the hot candidate that outsiders perceived him as.

With Johnson off Washington's radar, focus points to Baltimore Ravens coaches Mike Macdonald and Anthony Weaver, as well as Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

JAN 29 EMINEM VS. BEN JOHNSON The Washington Commanders coaching search is winding down, and it appears Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is a top candidate. However, there's one person in particular who doesn't one him to leave ... possibly the Lions' most famous fan, Eminem.

Eminem was interviewed by ePro Team, where he warned Johnson not to leave the Lions, or else there would be consequences.

"Ben Johnson, if you leave us, diss record is coming," Eminem joked.

Johnson is expected to interview with the Commanders on Tuesday.

JAN 28 COMMANDERS CAN INTERVIEW MACDONALD The Washington Commanders coaching search is now three weeks old, but now they have the chance to interview one of the league's top coordinators.

Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald saw his team lose the AFC Championship Game to the Kansas City Chiefs 17-10 on Sunday, which means he can now be approached for a second interview with the Washington Commanders.

Macdonald met with the Commanders virtually earlier this month, but now he can interview in person ... and with only two coaching vacancies left in the NFL, he may have a good shot at the Washington job.

JAN 23 COMMANDERS TO 'SEND CONTINGENT' TO DETROIT The Washington Commanders are continuing their coaching search, and they want a closer look at some of the league's top coordinators.

According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Commanders will "send a contingent" to meet with Detroit Lions coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn next week.

Johnson and Glenn are preparing the Lions for the NFC Championship against the San Francisco 49ers and cannot speak with other teams until after Sunday's game.

JAN 22 RIVERA INTERVIEWING WITH EAGLES Former Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera may be finding himself a new job soon.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Rivera is interviewing with the Philadelphia Eagles for their defensive coordinator position.

The Eagles fired Sean Desai on Sunday, opening up the vacancy. Should the Eagles hire Rivera, it would be a return for him to Philadelphia. Rivera was the team's linebackers coach from 1999-2003.

JAN 21 COMMANDERS INTERVIEW ERIC BIENIEMY Could the Washington Commanders' head coach already be in the building? 

Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report reported that the Commanders interviewed offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Eric Bieniemy earlier this week. Schultz also said that the interview included general manager Adam Peters and owner Josh Harris, and that Bieniemy "had an excellent and highly detailed approach."

After a solid start to the season, the Commanders' offense largely struggled in the second half of the year and they finished 25th in points per game (19.4). Sam Howell was in his first season as Washington's starting quarterback and threw for 3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. 

Before becoming the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach in Washington, Bieniemy was the Kansas City Chiefs OC from 2018-2022 and played a pivotal role in the success of quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes won two MVPs and the Chiefs won two Super Bowls in that span.   

JAN 18 COMMANDERS INTERVIEW MORRIS The Washington Commanders are adding to their interview list for their head coaching job.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Commanders are interviewing Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

Morris, 47, coached in Washington from 2012-14 as the defensive backs coach. That job came after he was a head coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-11. He also served as the interim coach for the Atlanta Falcons in 2020.

JAN 8 HARBAUGH WINS NATTY; MOVE TO D.C. NEXT? Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and his team is on top of the football world after beating the Washington Huskies 34-13 in Monday night's College Football Playoff National Championship.

With the win, Harbaugh will now listen to NFL head coach offers and he has been linked to the Commanders in the past.

Now, the Commanders can set up their interview and hope to land a championship-caliber coach to D.C.
