The Kansas City Chiefs show no signs of slowing down after their stellar 2024 Super Bowl run. Kansas City added another Patrick Mahomes weapon to their team by acquiring former Texas football wide receiver Xavier Worthy in the first round of the NFL Draft. Some have been concerned with Worthy’s weight, but he reassured fans and analysts that he can consistently hold his own.

Xavier Worthy gives eye-opening take on weight amid his Chiefs arrival

Worthy ran the fastest 40-yard dash in NFL combine history in March of 2024. His speed is no joke and is one of his major strengths. Still, his 170-pound frame worries those who believe his weight holds him back against bigger players. Worthy remains confident despite the concerns though.

“I weighed in at 169 [pounds} I don’t think I took big hits, I delivered them. I feel like it’s not going to be a problem. I feel like just understanding your strengths and your weaknesses, I feel like that’s the big thing in the league. Don’t, obviously, don’t try to go hit a 250-pound linebacker. Just understanding your strengths, like I said. [DeSean Jackson] came into the league at 169 and understood his strengths, so just using your strengths to your strength,” Worthy said, per Sports Illustrated.

Worthy is self-aware and knows he must focus on what he does best to be successful. He might not always be able to take on the biggest players but has a good chance of beating them with speed. Furthermore, he could put on more weight as he progresses through NFL training.

The former Texas football star looked to ex-star receiver DeSean Jackson for inspiration. As mentioned, Jackson entered the NFL  around 170 pounds but developed into one of the league’s most dominant offensive forces.

If Worthy sticks to the process, there is no doubt he can be just as great, and what better place to be great than in Kansas City?

Joining a world-class organization

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have won three Super Bowls in five years following their 25-22 2024 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Moreover, their 2024 win was their second consecutive, and Mahomes confirmed the team would go for a three-peat during their championship parade.

“We appreciate everything ya’ll do…we know we had to go on the road last year, but I promise you next year we’ll be at home. We’re going for that three-peat so don’t get it twisted. We’re doing it. Three times, the first time in NFL history. Love ya’ll,” Mahomes claimed.

The chances of Patrick Mahomes’ proclamation increased when Kansas City drafted Xavier Worthy. Worthy has the opportunity to thrive under one of the best quarterbacks in the league. His time with Quinn Ewers and the reputable Texas football program has prepared him to take a step forward professionally.

Worthy comes off a year where he amassed a collegiate career-high of 1,049 yards along with five touchdowns. His catching skill and ability to make plays in space should serve him well.

All in all, as the Chiefs prepare for another Super Bowl, Xavier Worthy is preparing to use his strengths to provide the best service can be to his new team.
