Chiefs, Bills fans donate thousands to cat rescue group in support of Tyler Bass

Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills fans alike have donated thousands of dollars this week to cat rescue organization Ten Lives Club this week in support of Bills kicker Tyler Bass. Bass, who has worked with the rescue and re-homing charity before, received threats after he missed a 44-yard field goal that would have tied the game up at 27-27.

Since the end of the game, fans have donated more than $100,000, according to WKBW reporter Jeff Russo.

Bass was recently a part of Ten Lives Club’s Show Your Soft Side campaign. The organization posted a message in support of Bass on Facebook amid the onset of the threats he faced after the loss:

“WE STAND WITH TYLER BASS. DON’T BULLY OUR FRIEND. We just heard the terrible news that Tyler Bass is receiving threats after yesterday’s game and our phones are ringing off the hook from people who want to donate $22 to Ten Lives Club in Tyler’s name.

“Tyler doesn’t deserve any of the hate he’s receiving. He’s an excellent football player and an even better person who took the time to help our organization and rescue cats last year. Leave our friend alone.”

Though the outcome of the game could have been different if Bass had made the kick, his teammates were quick to defend him.

“I wish it wouldn’t have been put in that situation,” Bills quarterback Josh Allen said post-game. “You win as a team, you lose as a team. One play doesn’t define a game, it doesn’t define a season. I know people are going to be out there saying that. We got to be there for him because, again, we execute a couple plays prior, probably singing a different tune right now.”

Bills fans pelt Patrick Mahomes with snowballs

While the Tyler Bass situation showed the generous and kind side of fandom, Bills fans displayed quite the opposite to Chiefs players after the game ended on Sunday.

Buffalo fans took advantage of the elements on Sunday night by using snowballs made from the mounds in Highmark Stadium to pelt Kansas City players, and Patrick Mahomes in particular, after the Chiefs’ win in the divisional round matchup. Even as Mahomes tried to celebrate with a young fan after the game, Bills fans still threw snowballs. The star quarterback went 17-for-23 for 215 yards and two touchdowns in the 27-24 win.

Chris Jones, who had been going back-and-forth with fans since the pregame warmups, also had snowballs thrown at him before the game was even over. Cameras even caught Chiefs player Drue Tranquill faking Buffalo fans out by pretending to throw one right back into the stands. After the game, Tranquill took an opportunity to roast the Bills for their arm strength.

“I caught the snowball,” he wrote on X. “If it didn’t break in my hand, it was getting launched right back at him. We’d beat them in a snowball fight too. Truth is, my four year old throws a meaner snowball than #BillsMafia.”

Tight end Travis Kelce had his own response to the snowball attacks. The veteran simply blew kisses to the fans in the stands.
