Carlson Brothers to Oppose Each Other for First Time
USA TODAY Sports

Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro kicker Daniel Carlson will have a much more personal connection to his team's Monday night matchup with the Green Bay Packers.

Carlson's younger brother, Anders Carlson, happens to be the kicker for Green Bay.

Monday will be the first time the brothers have been on opposing sidelines, not only in their NFL careers, but in their entire football lives.

The two brothers were each kickers at Auburn and were on the same team for one season (2017) when Anders Carlson was the backup to his older brother.

Daniel Carlson was with Auburn for five seasons, where he received All-America First Team honors in that final season from the Walter Camp Football Foundation, the American Football Coaches Association, CBS, and Pro Football Focus.

He finished as the SEC's all-time leading scorer.

Daniel Carlson was then drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He would be released by Minnesota that September and signed by the Raiders the following month.

Meanwhile, Anders Carlson played five more years with Auburn, taking over his brother's role as the star kicker.

He would go on to be named to the Associated Press' All-SEC First Team and American Football Coaches Association's (AFCA) All-American Second Team in 2020.

Anders Carlson was selected by the Packers in the sixth round of this year's NFL Draft.

So far, he has been perfect with extra point attempts (9/9) and field goal attempts (5/5).

In the last three weeks of this NFL season, Anders Carlson has made a field goal from at least 30 yards out.

In his first NFL game against the Chicago Bears in Week 1, the rookie made his first professional field goal from 52 yards out.

Both Carlson brothers grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado and each attended high school at The Classical Academy.

In likely won't be often these two take the field as foes in their NFL careers, so embrace Monday night while you can as these two kickers battle for the ultimate bragging rights.

The Silver and Black return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas next week to play the Green Bay Packers on Monday, Oct. 9, at 8:15 p.m. EDT/5:15 p.m. PDT.
