Cardinals make third defensive line addition, sign Khyiris Tonga
Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Cardinals have signed/re-signed their fourth defensive lineman of this year’s NFL Free Agency.

Confirming their third acquisition in that position so far, Arizona posted on X/Twitter that former Minnesota Viking Khyiris Tonga is heading to the Valley on a one-year contract.

To begin his NFL career, the Utah native was a seventh-round pick in the 2021 Draft by the Chicago Bears.

The 6-foot-4, 338-pound lineman played 15 games and totaled 24 tackles while on the Bears.

On June 2, 2021, Tonga signed a four-year rookie contract with Chicago but was waived on August 31, 2022.

He would then join the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings’ practice squads soon after until Minnesota gave him a bigger opportunity on their main roster.

During the past two seasons (2022-23), Tonga played 25 games while grabbing 43 tackles and 0.5 sacks and defended four passes.

This news about him becoming a Cardinal comes just a day after both Bilal Nichols and Justin Jones both signed with Arizona. The Cardinals also re-signed L.J. Collier but Tonga’s arrival further improves the overall depth on the defensive line.

Prior to free agency, the Cards had Phil Hoskins, Ben Stille, Roy Lopez, Dante Stills and Naquan Jones before the news about Jones, Nichols and Tonga broke. Leki Fotu left Arizona to sign with the New York Jets while Jonathan Ledbetter remains unsigned.
