The Arizona Cardinals will be without a key defensive figure for Friday's preseason matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury told reporters that two-time First-Team All-Pro pass-rusher Chandler Jones didn't practice Tuesday and won't play Friday because of an undisclosed injury. Fans shouldn't be too concerned, however, as Kingsbury added Jones' latest setback is not serious.
Jones played in five games last year before his season prematurely ended because of a torn biceps. The 31-year-old, who had 19 sacks during the 2019 campaign, reportedly requested a trade this past offseason but did not have that wish granted, although it's possible he could be moved if the Cardinals receive the right offer before the regular season opens next month.
Jones sitting Friday night out isn't alarming on its own, as plenty of veterans are held out of preseason games to avoid injuries and wear and tear that comes with facing any opponent, even in exhibition contests. With the Cardinals hoping to contend for more than just a playoff spot, they'll want to make sure Jones is 100% by Sept. 12.
