Bucs WR Godwin Selected As Ed Block Courage Award Winner
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Bucs announced that wide receiver Chris Godwin was selected as the team’s 2022 Ed Block Courage Award Winner. Godwin  was selected by a vote from his teammates.

The award, which is given out to a player on every NFL team, is named in honor of Ed Block, who was a trainer for the Baltimore Colts and is a humanitarian. The award is meant to symbolize professionalism, strength and dedication along with acting as a community role model. It is mean to be given to someone that best exemplifies sportsmanship and courage.

Godwin fought through a lot of adversity coming back from a torn ACL suffered in December of 2021. He rehabbed it all offseason and parts of training camp and was able to return for the opening of the 2022 regular season. Week by week Godwin continued to regain his form and ended the season with 104 catches for 1,023 yards and three touchdowns. He made another 10 receptions in Tampa Bay’s Super Wild Card game, which put atop of the list for most receptions in an entire season in Bucs’ history.

Godwin is also dedicated to helping out with the Team Godwin Foundation, which was founded by himself and his wife Mariah. Through the foundation, they helped out at risk animals get a second chance and also provided support for families and business impacted by both the pandemic and hurricane disasters in the Florida area.

Godwin Releases Statement On Winning The Award

In a press release from the Bucs, Godwin commented on winning the prestigious award.

“I am truly humbled to be selected as the Buccaneers nominee for this award,” Godwin said. “I appreciate my teammates for honoring me with this recognition, and I am incredibly grateful to our support staff who aided and encouraged me as I worked to overcome a difficult injury. While this is an individual honor, this is something I will share with everybody in the Buccaneers organization.”

All of the 32 recipients including Godwin will be honored at the 45th annual Ed Block Courage Awards on April 1st and 2nd at the Renaissance Harbor Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland.

Coming back from a serious injury, it was commendable what he was able to do. Next season may even be better as he gets fully healthy and comfortable, returning back to being one of the best wide receivers that the Bucs have ever had.
