Buccaneers Reveal Injury Update On Chris Godwin
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin did not practice on Thursday due to a knee injury, according to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk.

Godwin also missed practice on Wednesday due to the same issue.

His status for the Buccaneers’ matchup with the Green Bay Packers this weekend seems up in the air.

Godwin’s injury surfaced after Week 14, when Tampa Bay defeated the Atlanta Falcons. He logged five catches for 53 yards in the win. He played in more than 80 percent of the Bucs’ offensive snaps in the contest.

That came one week after Godwin went catchless in a victory over the Carolina Panthers, which prompted his wife, Mariah, to criticize head coach Todd Bowles and accuse him of lying about Godwin’s role.

On the season overall, Godwin has played in every game and has caught 58 passes for 659 yards and a touchdown.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Penn State, was selected by the Buccaneers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He played in every game during his rookie campaign, snaring 34 balls for 525 yards and a score. He followed that up by registering 59 grabs for 842 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018, and by his his third season, Godwin broke out, hauling in 86 receptions 1,333 yards while reaching the end zone nine times. He earned a trip to the Pro Bowl for his efforts.

Godwin has not matched that production since, but he has managed to put together a couple of more 1,000-yard campaigns, including last season when he totaled 104 catches for 1,023 yards and three touchdowns.

Tampa Bay is 6-7 on the year and is locked in a three-way tie with the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints in the NFC South. However, due to owning the tiebreaker over both clubs at the moment, the Bucs are technically in first place.

After battling the Packers, the Buccaneers will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars, Saints and Panthers to close out the regular season.
