Buccaneers Release Son Of NFL Legend Following Disappointing Training Camp

The NFL preseason concluded over the weekend and now teams will focus on the tough task of cutting down from 90 players to 53-man rosters on August 29. There are a couple of franchises that are getting head starts on the action.

According to Pewter Report, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released rookie wide receiver Kade Warner on Sunday afternoon. Warner, the son of NFL legend and Super Bowl Champion Kurt Warner, was battling among a deep unit of wide receivers for a spot on the roster. 

With that being said, Warner only caught two passes for 29 yards during his three preseason appearances and didn't do enough to separate himself compared to some of the other rookies. Sixth-round pick Trey Palmer totaled seven catches for 91 yards and two touchdowns while undrafted free agent Rakim Jarrett hauled in seven catches for 132 yards.

Palmer had two athletic and eye-popping touchdown catches while Jarrett led the team in receiving during his only two appearances of the preseason. There's still an opportunity that the team retains Warner on the practice squad depending on how certain moves play out over the next few days.

The Buccaneers signed Warner to an undrafted free agent deal shortly after the 2023 NFL Draft. He went through the offseason program with the team and flashed at times during practice. It just didn't carry over into the three games and that might have hurt Warner compared to other wide receivers.

Warner spent six years at the college level, beginning his time as a walk-on at Nebraska before transferring to Kansas State for his final few seasons. He developed into a reliable playmaker, catching 60 passes for 622 yards and five touchdowns for the Wildcats.

The 6-foot-1, 204-pound wide receiver participated at Kansas State's Pro Day where he recorded a 4.72-second 40-yard dash, 4.23-second shuttle, 9'00" broad jump, 35-inch vertical jump and 13 bench-press reps of 225 pounds.
