Browns showing interest in 'hot' OC candidate

The Browns search for their next offensive coordinator continues after parting ways with Alex Van Pelt last week. And the latest name to pop up on their radar is a "hot" candidate, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Cleveland requested an interview with Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Los Angeles is expected to let him speak to other teams after naming Jim Harbaugh its new head coach. Harbaugh could bring several changes to the team, including a change at offensive coordinator.

The Browns must move quickly, however, as they aren't the only team showing interest in Moore. The Eagles have also requested an interview with him, per Pelissero.

The Chargers offense ranked in the middle of the league in several categories this season. But Los Angeles saw several injuries to key players, such as QB Justin Herbert and wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

Moore's four-year stint with the Cowboys is why he remains an intriguing option for teams. Dallas averaged the fourth most points per game (27.5) in 2022 and the most (31.2) in 2021.

Adding Moore to Cleveland's coaching staff could set the team up for a dominant 2024 season.

The Browns defense was the best in football this year, allowing the fewest total yards per game (270.2). If their offense can follow suit under Moore next season, they will have a good chance to still be playing this time next year.

Moore will surely entertain the teams interested in him. But there is a scenario that the Chargers want him to return in 2024. It could be difficult for him to turn down coaching on Harbaugh's staff.

But for now, the Browns will continue turning over every stone to find who they believe will be the best offensive coordinator for them in 2024 and beyond. Moore could certainly turn out to be their guy.
