Browns are interested in helping former NFL Draft gem make a great comeback
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns have already made a few interesting moves in free agency but the latest news around them may be the most surprising.

The Browns have held a workout with former San Francisco 49ers DE Aaron Lynch. It appears that Lynch is attempting to make an NFL comeback since he has not played since 2020.

Lynch burst onto the scene as an impactful find late in the draft back in 2014. After being a fifth-round selection, Lynch had six sacks as a rookie with just three starts under his belt. The following season he had a career-high 6.5 sacks in 13 starts but things would go downhill from there.

Between 2016 and 2017, Lynch made just three starts and only played in 14 games. He then went to the Chicago Bears and had three sacks in 13 games during the 2018 season. He played sparingly in 2020 and eight games in 2020 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, which was his last stop.

Cleveland brought back Za’Darius Smith and will rely on Isaiah McGuire and Ogbo Okoronkwo to provide depth behind Smith and Garrett. In the past, GM Andrew Berry has taken shots at players looking to turn their career around. Maurice Hurst was the latest example of that being a success in Cleveland.

Lunch is a guy you bring in for camp to find out just what he has in the tank. It would be a no-risk high-reward type of signing. Despite the workout going in a positive direction, there’s been no reported deal at this time.
