Bills' Josh Allen 'super frustrated' about false-positive coronavirus test

Josh Allen was one of the 77 NFL players who received a false-positive test over the weekend and the Bills quarterback was not afraid to voice his frustration over the process.

"I got a call at six in the morning saying I tested positive and honestly, it's nothing you want to hear and I'm sitting there like, 'I feel fine, there's nothing wrong,'" Allen said, via the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. "I come in, try to get in the building and I have to go through protocol. I went through the test that was right here that gives you results in 15 minutes and that came back negative. I'm super frustrated that I wasn't (at practice)."

According to a released statement from Jon R. Cohen, M.D., the Executive Chairman of BioReference Laboratories, which is the company that partners with the NFL for testing, the false-positives were due to an isolated incident at the New Jersey lab and is not something that should happen again. Still, for players like Allen, it's hard not get annoyed at the lack of clarity about results.

The NFL has put strict testing and protocol in place to ensure that any player testing positive won't lead to an outbreak. According to NFL protocol, someone who is asymptomatic may return to their team after 10 days or after five days if they take two consecutive negative tests.

However, there have been some problems with false-positives, as quarterback Matthew Stafford had a similar situation where he was initially told he had tested positive for coronavirus only to discover later it was a false-positive test.
