Bengals RB Giovani Bernard misses practice with concussion

At this rate, the Cincinnati Bengals are merely trying to survive what's quickly become a disastrous NFL season.

ESPN's Ben Baby tweeted on Wednesday that running back Giovani Bernard didn't practice because of a concussion. His status for Sunday's home game against the New York Giants is unknown heading into Thanksgiving.

Bernard, 29, has served as Cincinnati's starting ball-carrier since Joe Mixon went down with a right foot injury that first made Mixon a spectator during a loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 18. Mixon is on injured reserve and may not take the field again this season.

If Bernard can't play on the final Sunday of November, Samaje Perine and Trayveon Williams will rise up the depth chart and see additional backfield work. Perine has 102 rushing yards and a touchdown on 24 attempts this season, while Williams has accumulated a paltry 22 yards on five carries.

Earlier in the day, reports surfaced that Brandon Allen will replace injured rookie Joe Burrow and start at quarterback for Cincinnati versus the Giants. Burrow tore his ACL and MCL in last Sunday's showdown with the Washington Football Team.
