Bengals OC Brian Callahan With Big Praise For Jake Browning

Bengals quarterback Jake Browning is off to a record-setting start

Not only has the 27-year-old led Cincinnati to back-to-back wins. He's completed 69-of-87 (79.3%) passes for 856 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in three starts. He's also ran for 38 yards and two scores.

"It's been fun to coach, it's been fun to watch him," Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan said on Wednesday. "He's so intentional about his work during the week and he spends it spends a ton of time on it and it turns out he's actually a pretty good player, too. Those are all things you don't know sometimes until you get put in the moment."

Browning is the first quarterback in NFL history to complete at least 78% of his passes and post a quarterback rating higher than 95 in his first three starts.

He's posted a 113.4 passer rating over that span. That ranks second in the NFL behind Brock Purdy. The Bengals need Browning to continue to play this way if they're going to make the playoffs for a third-straight season.

"He's really done everything you could ever ask of a guy to come in and play. I mean, he's played as good as you could ask him to play. It's been fantastic," Callahan said. "There's a lot of guys have been around that have been really good practice players that don't play like Jake's played. I think you just look at his part of his track record, of his success he's had over his career, and it turns out that it maybe it's not a fluke. Maybe he's just a really pretty good quarterback. I'm happy for his success. It's been great for us."
