Bears 'Stuck to Plan' in Free Agency, So Far
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

With NFL free agency firmly underway, Ryan Poles believes the Bears have stuck to their plan with their early additions.

Entering the NFL offseason, every team has a plan. However, how often are teams able to stick to said plan and accomplish what they set out to achieve? In the case of the Chicago Bears, it appears Ryan Poles and the front office stuck to their plan and made some big splashes in the free agency period.

Although some signings have been smaller in nature, the Bears have also made larger splashes. Adding DJ Moore in the trade for the No. 1 pick aside, the Bears added a major name on the offensive line in Nate Davis, and a freak athlete in the form of Tremaine Edmunds. Don't forget about TJ Edwards, who is also a very good linebacker in his own right.

In addition to the big splashes, the Bears added another defensive lineman in DeMarcus Walker, a backup quarterback in PJ Walker, and a solid depth running back and special teamer in Travis Homer. All three players have clear roles entering the season. Sometimes, adding players to fill specific needs, even if for depth, is still a major win.

The plan was laid out clearly with adding on both sides in the trenches and in linebacker row. However, those trenches still need to be upgraded slightly. The need for a right tackle is still glaring, and the whole defensive line could use a face lift. If the Bears don't do much in the coming days, then it's safe to assume their "plan" involves drafting in the trenches.

However, are the Bears done? Reports indicate the Bears are adding to the defensive line in the form of Andrew Billings. Are the Bears going to continue making similar additions? Low profile moves on the line seem to be the case. Perhaps the Bears are building depth on the lines while aiming to add in the Draft. Who knows? However, if Poles believes they've stuck to their plan, it is comforting to fans and helps the front office gain further trust from the ownership and fans alike.
