The Bears ruled out safety Eddie Jackson on Saturday because of  a foot injury and bolstered their defense in anticipation of facing the Kansas City Chiefs by bringing up two players on that side of the ball from the practice squad.

Safety A.J. Thomas and defensive end Daniel Hardy came up through standard elevation.

Thomas will give them needed extra backup help at safety. Jackson has a foot injury suffered against Tampa Bay and missed practice all week. He had been doubtful for the game Friday, before being ruled out.

Hardy is replacing Khalid Kareem. The Bears placed Kareem, an injured edge rusher, on injured reserve. Kareem suffered the injury in practice. He had been with the Colts last year and Cincinnati prior to that and had a sack in his rookie season with the Bengals.

Hardy, an edge rusher who got on the field for 41 defensive plays and 128 special teams plays with the Rams last year as a rookie, was signed by the Bears to the practice squad at the end of training camp.
