Bears QB Justin Fields cleared to play, will start Sunday vs. Packers

Good news for Chicago Bears fans as quarterback Justin Fields has been cleared to play and will start this Sunday in a rematch with the rival Green Bay Packers.

Bears coach Matt Nagy told reporters on Wednesday the rookie QB has recovered from the ribs fracture he sustained in Week 11 in a 16-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

"This comes down to for him, like I've been saying the whole time, it's a pain deal that we can't really simulate," Nagy said Wednesday, via ESPN. "We go off what he says, we go off what our doctors say. When he's fully cleared like he is, then we're ready to rock and roll. He's the starter when he's healthy and that's where we're at."

Nagy added the decision to start Fields isn't a result of Andy Dalton injuring his non-throwing hand in last weekend's 33-22 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, nor did he give a detailed update about the severity of the injury.

Dalton started both games in Fields' absence, posting an 85.1 QB rating on Thanksgiving against the Detroit Lions but floundering miserably against the Cardinals while throwing for 229 yards with two touchdowns and a whopping four interceptions.

Fields, the 11th overall pick in this year's NFL draft, has seen his ups and downs in his first season of professional football. Through 10 games this season, the Ohio State product has completed 51.8% of his passes for 1361 yards with four touchdowns and eight interceptions.
