Bears Elevate DB A.J. Thomas From Practice Squad
Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports

Friday's injury report was full of gloom for the Chicago Bears, specifically in their defensive secondary. Eddie Jackson, Jaylon Johnson, and Josh Blackwell will all miss Sunday's contest against the Denver Broncos. A pair of rookies will start at corner in Terrell Smith and Tyrique Stevenson, and now A.J. Thomas, who was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday, will serve as depth at safety.

Thomas appeared in five games for the Bears as a rookie in 2022. The Western Michigan product made three tackles in those five games. Although the second-year player hasn't seen the field much, he remained with the organization after being cut in favor of waiver claim Quindell Johnson earlier this season. Now, he might get a chance on Sunday to make some plays in the secondary.

The Bears' secondary will have their hands full on Sunday as the Broncos come to town. Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy are high quality receivers and will likely give the Bears fits. If the pass rush remains non-existent on Sunday, Thomas and others could be on the other end of some highlight plays.

The Bears and Broncos kick off at noon CDT on Sunday. Both teams are looking for their first wins of the 2023 season.
