Analyst believes Ravens could fill a need by trading for Raiders' Johnathan Abram

When the Baltimore Ravens placed safety Marcus Williams on injured reserve, the team faced a tough ask in trying to replace such a key cog in its defensive backfield.

And while Geno Stone has been a solid fill-in, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes Baltimore could find a more capable replacement on the trade market in Las Vegas Raiders safety Johnathan Abram.

“Abram could interest teams looking for a back-end defender,” Knox wrote. “… He'd be a great fit for the Baltimore Ravens, who lost starting safety Marcus Williams to a dislocated wrist this month. Baltimore has only $3M in cap space, but that would be enough to add Abram.”

Stone has filled in admirably, totaling 26 tackles, a pass breakup, a forced fumble and fumble recovery, and he's allowing a completion percentage of just 57.1% in three starts. Baltimore also has rookie safety Kyle Hamilton, who's come on strong in recent weeks.

However, Abram, who has the second-most tackles on the Raiders (40), is having a strong season is his own right and would provide a stabilizing presence in the Baltimore secondary.

He’s held opposing receivers to 9.1 yards per reception — more than a full yard below his career average of 10.7 — and he’s allowing the lowest passer rating of his career (91.3) in coverage.

Williams led the Ravens with three interceptions, tied for the team lead with five pass breakups, and he was Baltimore’s third-leading tackler (33) at the time of his injury.
