After recent league news, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is starting to look severely underpaid
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

This is the time of year when players are going to start resetting markets now. Players at certain positions are going to start making far more money than the guys who are the best because it's been some time since that player was paid. It happens all the time, and even the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a victim of it.

If you look at the quarterbacks that are getting paid the most per year, Mahomes is no longer at the top. Mahomes is now the eighth-highest-paid quarterback in the league, making the same amount of money as Kirk Cousins. If that doesn't tell you he's underpaid, I don't know what will happen when you consider him the best quarterback and player.

Now, the Chiefs have one more player who falls in that same category as a severely underpaid guy.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Philadelphia Eagles have given kicker Jake Elliot a $24 million extension. That means that Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is falling down the list of highest-paid kickers when he is easily one of the best, if not the best. Some would argue Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker is better, but he doesn't have three Super Bowl rings.

According to Spotrac, Butker is the 13th-highest-paid kicker in the league, which is just atrocious. The Chiefs could be in a situation soon where they will likely have to pay Butker, a guy who is very vital to their team and a huge reason they have won as many games as they have.

They recently paid Chris Jones and restructured Patrick Mahomes' contract to see if they can keep L'Jarius Sneed. But they will also have guys to pay in the future, such as Nick Bolton if they choose, Creed Humphrey, Trey Smith, and a few others. This won't be an easy decision, but one has to be made.
