Aaron Rodgers explains what led him to Jets

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has revealed more information about what caused him to accept a move from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets this spring.

"I really trust in the universal signs and synchronicities, and when they’re all pointing and speaking in a certain direction, I just have to trust that this is the path I’m supposed to be on," Rodgers said during an appearance on the "I Am Athlete" program with former NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall, per Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post.

Rodgers suggested after what became the final game of his Packers tenure this past January that he could walk away from the remaining cash attached to his massive contract because "money is energy, and I have made a ton of it." The 39-year-old then told "The Pat McAfee Show" last month he started his somewhat controversial darkness retreat "90 percent retired and 10 percent playing" before he decided to play for the Jets.

Rodgers explained to Marshall that he knew "from the moment I got out of the darkness" he wanted to feature for Gang Green.

"This was the signs and synchronicities that were happening in my life, that this was going to be an opportunity that was going to be really special, and that this was going to be a super-growth opportunity for me personally — the opportunity to impact the people in the direct circle of my life, the new friends I’m gonna make in this, the fan base, and to be a part of something really special," Rodgers continued during the conversation. "I just have to trust what I’m seeing around me, that this is where I’m supposed to be."

Rodgers initially declined on Wednesday to commit to playing for the Jets beyond the upcoming season before he later said that "this isn’t a one-and-done in my mind" and that he will keep playing "as long as it's fun."

If things stop being "fun" for Rodgers by the middle of January 2024, the Jets may find themselves searching for a replacement for 2021 second-overall draft pick Zach Wilson for the second straight offseason.
