49ers' Jauan Jennings celebrates Joshua Dobbs reunion with callback to their most famous play
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Jauan Jennings and Joshua Dobbs are back on the same team, and the San Francisco 49ers wideout clearly could not be happier.

Dobbs' agent revealed on Monday that the 49ers are signing the quarterback to a one-year deal, which is reported to be worth $2.25 million in fully guaranteed money.

He will likely back up Brock Purdy, but the move sees him reunite with fellow former Tennessee Volunteer Jennings, with whom he combined for one of the most famous plays in program history.

Jennings' game-winning touchdown reception on a Hail Mary from Dobbs in Tennessee's road victory over Georgia in 2016 will forever live in Volunteer folklore.

And Jennings was quick to call back to it in a post on his Instagram story celebrating Dobbs signing with the 49ers.

Jennings simply referred to Dobbs as the 'Hail Mary King'.

Dobbs' ability to win games on very short notice for the Minnesota Vikings last year will have been a key part of his appeal as a backup to the 49ers.

But his long-standing rapport with the ultra-reliable Jennings, who threw for a touchdown and caught a touchdown in the 49ers' Super Bowl 58 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, is an added bonus.

"I'm always behind Dobbs man, I ride with Dobbs, I like Dobbs," Jennings said back in September.

"Great leader, he ran the offense well [at Tennessee]. Every game you could count on Dobbs. He's going to punch one in the end zone with his legs. His biggest target was my dog Josh Malone. But when we did connect, we found ways to get into the end zone as well."

It would likely take an injury to Purdy for Dobbs and Jennings to have the chance to connect in the endzone for the 49ers, but San Francisco certainly won't have any complaints about having a backup with that kind of connection with one its most reliable weapons.
