49ers' Deebo Samuel adds to Brock Purdy MVP hype

San Francisco 49ers dual-threat offensive weapon Deebo Samuel would give his Most Valuable Player vote to quarterback and teammate Brock Purdy as of the first full week of December.

"Man, my boy number one right now," Samuel said about Purdy's place in the MVP race during a Tuesday appearance on the FanDuel TV "Up & Adams" program, as shared by David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone. "It ain't even up for debate."

According to ESPN stats, Purdy ended Week 13 leading the NFL among qualified signal-callers with a 75.6 adjusted QBR, a 116.1 passer rating, a 70.2% completion percentage and an average of 9.6 yards per pass attempt. The 23-year-old is fourth with 23 passing touchdowns and seventh with 3,185 total passing yards.

Purdy and the 9-3 49ers hold the No. 2 spot for the NFC portion of the postseason tournament coming off this past Sunday's 42-19 blowout win over the Philadelphia Eagles. 10-2 Philadelphia would be the NFC's No. 1 seed if the playoffs began today.

As of Tuesday afternoon, oddschecker listed Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts as the betting favorite at +400 odds to earn MVP honors. Purdy was second at +650 odds at that same time, but Samuel believes the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft can close any gap before Week 18 concludes.

"He's just got to keep stacking games, stacking days, stacking weeks," Samuel said about Purdy. "We got to go out here and continue to make plays for him, and I think he'll get the job done as far as the MVP conversation."

Also on Tuesday afternoon, oddschecker had the 49ers as the overall favorites at +430 odds to win Super Bowl LVIII in February. San Francisco next hosts the 6-6 Seattle Seahawks this coming Sunday.

"... I don't think that's his ideal goal as far as something that he really wants to accomplish right now," Samuel added about Purdy possibly claiming the MVP Award. "I think, at the end of the day, as a whole, as a group, as a team, we want to be standing there at the end of the year holding the Lombardi Trophy."
