49ers' Brock Purdy reveals if he holds grudges about 2022 NFL Draft

Eight quarterbacks were drafted before Brock Purdy in 2022, yet the San Francisco 49ers star insists he holds no grudges.

"Honestly, I'm not that kind of guy," Purdy told NFL Media's Michael Robinson Monday. "I know a couple of the guys that got drafted before me, but I've never held a grudge for it or anything. I'm a believer that God has a plan for everybody, and I fell last for a reason. I haven't held any grudges against other teams. It all happened how it needed to, and I'm blessed to be a part of the 49ers."

Some players like Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown can name the 16 WRs who were drafted ahead of them. Perhaps Purdy — 2022 "Mr. Irrelevant"  — has an understated competitive fire and doesn't want to flaunt it.

Plus, he lucked out when he landed with the 49ers. San Francisco has elite playmakers, including running back Christian McCaffrey, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle.

Purdy deserves credit, however. In 16 regular-season games, he finished first in the league in QBR (72.7). In the postseason, he's completed 61.4 percent of his passes for two TDs and one pick, leading the Niners to their second Super Bowl appearance in five years.

"I've seen Brock play since college, I knew how good he was," Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said Monday at Super Bowl Opening Night. "Usually, when you can make it happen in college, no matter what your surroundings are, and turn around a program like he did at Iowa State, you're going to make it happen when you get your opportunity in the NFL."

The 49ers face the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday in Las Vegas. As of Tuesday, FanDuel lists them as a 2.5-point favorite. If San Francisco wins, the 24-year-old will become the second-youngest QB to hoist the Lombardi Trophy, via CBS Sports.
