Tulane University is notoriously known as the other school in Louisiana. The football program has a below .500 record and is more known for cool jerseys than football production. However, under former coach Willie Fritz, Tulane became a force on the football field with a high-powered offense. One of the critical members of the offense was 2024 NFL Draft prospect Jha’quan Jackson. Jackson was a 3-star recruit wide receiver out of Boutte, Louisiana, committed to Tulane. Throughout his time at Tulane, Jackson was an all-purpose threat and contributed to multiple wins. However, can he translate the success to the NFL? Let’s dig into the film film!

 Jackson’s Strengths

• He is a walking big play in a variety of ways.
• You name it, whether it’s screens, deep routes, or return specialists. He can take it to the house.
• He has elite short-area quickness, which can be helpful in the slot where I think his home will be and outside.
• Has good, reliable hands. Trust his hands to make catches outside his body.
• He has outstanding speed and is an explosive runner after the catch. He is elusive in the open field to make defenders miss
• He can be your day-one difference-maker in the punt and kick return game.
• He is fearless and has good feet and the speed to change field positions.

Jackson’s Weakness

• It will predominantly be more of a slot-only Wide Receiver due to its small size and stature.
• 50/50 balls are not his forte due to lack of size.
• He does not catch balls in traffic well and needs improvement to play a slot role.
• Lack of big-time production as a Wide Receiver and more of an all-purpose gadget player.
• His best role in the league is being a gadget player, so not much of a concern.
• Lack of size means he can not fit every scheme and may never develop into a go-to Wide Receiver.

Best Fits: San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings, and the New York Jets.

Bottom Line

Jha’Quan Jackson is the definition of an athlete who knows how to play football. He’s not the biggest, the best route runner, or the best hands, but I am very confident Jackson will make an NFL roster. As the NFL becomes more and more positionless, Jackson’s versatility to be used on offense and returners is special. He can be used on quick screens, in the slot, and occasionally go deep. He has elite short-area quickness that allows him to be useful on the slot and in the open field to evade tackles. My NFL pro comparison was former Tulane great Darnell Mooney. Both are undersized speedy receivers with good short area quickness to be an all-purpose threat. Mooney has made a good living in the slot, using his athleticism in the quick and deep passing game. Also, like Mooney, Jackson can be used on trick plays, fast motions, and reverses to keep the defense guessing. Don’t be surprised if Jackson is making plays for your team!
