Tyus Jones Issues Strong Statement On His Future With Wizards
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Washington Wizards point guard Tyus Jones becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season. The Duke product, who is averaging 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists this season, spoke to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype about his future.

“I try not to focus on it too much,” Jones said. “I know there’s an opportunity here starting in a contract year. I’m trying to let that stuff play itself out and take care of it when it gets here. I like where I’m at. I like what we have here in DC. I like the future and what this could be. I want to be a part of that. I’m looking forward to doing so.”

Jones is making $14 million this season. Even though the Wizards have started the campaign 2-9, Jones is still high on Washington’s potential.

“I know we can do something special here,” Jones said. “I know we’ve got a lot of good pieces. The chemistry here is great. Guys get along. That’s the first and most important thing. Guys have to be able to get along and have conversations and communicate. That’ll translate to on the court. It’s still early in the season, and we’ve still got a lot of moving pieces and new faces, schemes and verbiage.

“We know things will continue to click. We’re just trying to improve and get better each day. By the end of the season, and we’re looking back, we’ll like where we’re at. It’s still the beginning of a new era in DC, and we’re excited about that.”

Jones has 53 assists and only nine turnovers this season. He’s one of the top floor generals in the NBA.

Jones has career averages of 6.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists with the Memphis Grizzlies and Wizards.
