Trail Blazers trade Rodney Hood and Gary Trent to Raptors for Norman Powell

The Portland Trail Blazers are sending Rodney Hood and Gary Trent to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Normal Powell, one of the most highly-coveted players on the trade block.

Powell has been having an outstanding season in Toronto, averaging 19.6 points per game while making 43.9% of his three-pointers. The 27-year-old has spent his entire career with the Raptors and did not show much of a penchant for scoring in his first few seasons before breaking into double-digit averages for the first time last season.

The addition of Powell should provide even more offense for the Trail Blazers, who already have an elite backcourt with Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum. He also has an $11.6 million player option for next season, though he could be seeking a bigger payday.

The main takeaway for the Raptors is Trent, who is only 22 and is currently averaging over 15 points per game this season. He is set to become a restricted free agent after the season, which could give Toronto the advantage for locking him down long-term. Hood has had a solid career but the 28-year-old is averaging just 4.7 points per game so far this season.
