San Antonio Spurs Reportedly Make A Roster Decision
USA TODAY Sports

Gorgui Dieng is coming off a season where he played for the San Antonio Spurs.

Over 31 games, the 33-year-old averaged 3.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest while shooting 38.5% from the field.

This summer, he became a free agent, and the Spurs will not be re-signing him.

According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, the team has renounced his rights.

Via Smith : "The San Antonio Spurs renounced the free agent rights to Gorgui Dieng."

In addition to the Spurs, Dieng has also played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Memphis Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves.

His career averages are 7.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest while shooting 49.6% from the field and 35.5% from the three-point range in 628 regular season games (he has also appeared in seven NBA playoff games).

While Dieng is no longer in the prime of his career, he is an experienced center who can also shoot three-pointers.

In 2022 (with the Hawks), he shot 42.6% from the three-point range (on 1.5 attempts per contest).

Therefore, the former Louisville star could be a good pickup for a contender looking to add depth at the center position.

As for the Spurs, they are coming off a year where they were tied with the Houston Rockets for the second-worst record in the NBA (22-60).

They have missed the NBA playoffs for four straight seasons but have also won five titles since 1999.

Last month, the Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama with the first pick in the NBA Draft.
