The Sacramento Kings put up an admirable fight during the play-in tournament, but they fell short of their goals and had to take their vacations earlier than they would have liked. They did everything they could to stop the New Orleans Pelicans with a depleted lineup, but the absence of Malik Monk and Kevin Huerter proved too much to overcome.
With the season over, there is an air of uncertainty surrounding the Kings’ roster. Malik Monk has an expiring contract and could be picked up by another team in free agency. They also have to address the other weak points of their roster if they want to boost their playoff hopes.
If there’s any good news for Kings fans, it’s Huerter’s recovery from his shoulder injury. Huerter’s shooting was missed by the team during the play-in, and his presence could have seen them trying to take down the Oklahoma City Thunder instead.
Because of this, he’ll be working hard throughout the offseason to make sure he’s coming back stronger than ever for the 2024-25 campaign.
Sacramento Kings’ Kevin Huerter shares encouraging injury update for 2024-25 campaign
Huerter revealed that he’s taking his time with his recovery since there’s no basketball left to play for. However, he shared that it shouldn’t take any longer before he can start working on his craft again.
Per Frankie Cartoscelli of Sactown Sports:
“I still have about four more weeks in the sling,” Huerter said. “[Doctors] said 12 weeks out from surgery was start shooting, doing on-court stuff. I’m already kind of ahead of schedule a little bit. So, you know, we’re hoping August is [full] contact. Should be on pace for training camp in [September], so a couple more weeks.”
Huerter, who only had 64 games to his name this season, had a down year. He finished with 10.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on 44%/36%/76% shooting. However, fans know how potent of a shooter can be if he gets into his groove.
Kings fans will be hopeful that Huerter will be able to recover fully from the injury and start next season running with the Kings.
