Ray Allen was invited to Garnett's jersey retirement ceremony
Will this ceremony be a chance for Ray Allen and KG to officially and finally bury the hatchet? Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The once-unfathomable détente between Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen appears to be continuing in a big way this week.

Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reported Friday that the Boston Celtics, who are set to retire Garnett’s jersey this weekend, will be using the event as an opportunity to reunite their 2008 team. Washburn adds that Allen, who was left out of previous reunions, has been invited to the ceremony as well.

That marks a major thawing of tensions, perhaps even a peace offering, between Garnett and Allen. The two have had some major bad blood over the last decade, largely stemming from Garnett, ever since Allen left the Celtics in 2012 to sign with the rival Miami Heat. Even as recently as last fall, Garnett was still taking petty shots at his former teammate Allen.

But Garnett finally appeared to have a change of heart in recent months. The two Hall of Famers also had a run-in at the NBA 75 ceremony during All-Star Weekend in Cleveland, but that was admittedly somewhat awkward. Garnett’s jersey retirement, which is officially slated for Sunday’s contest against the Dallas Mavericks, should be their chance to finally bury the hatchet once and for all.
