Report: Jazz Quickly Decide to Waive Kevin Knox II After Deadline

During this year's NBA trade deadline day, the Utah Jazz ended up making a couple of selling moves down the rotation to plan for the future of this roster's construction. One of those deals was to send second-year Simone Fontecchio to the Detroit Pistons in return for Kevin Knox II and a second-round pick.

However, it turns out Knox's stay in Salt Lake City won't be for long. According to a report from the Jazz, the team has opted to waive the former lottery pick on Friday.

The former Kentucky Wildcat played in 31 games during his time with Detroit, averaging 7.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.7 assists on 46.2/33.0/90.9 shooting splits. Knox has been a part of four NBA franchises in the past three seasons, also having stints with the Portland Trail Blazers, Atlanta Hawks, and New York Knicks.

As reported by Tony Jones of The Athletic, Jazz GM Justin Zanik would "ideally like" to utilize the open 15th spot on the roster, but will ultimately be discussed with the front office on what moves could be made. Whether that lone spot is used on a productive veteran or even a two-way player already on the squad remains to be seen.

Expect Utah to be diligent in the coming days with their search for another talented piece to bring onto the roster for the remainder of the 2023-24 NBA season.
