Pistons to Interview Jerome Allen for Coaching Vacancy
Allison Farrand-USA TODAY Sports

The Pistons intend to interview assistant Jerome Allen for their head-coaching vacancy, per Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports.

Allen has been a member of the ex-coach Dwane Casey’s staff for two seasons. Casey moved into the front office after the season.

Clearly, the Pistons are casting a wide net in their search, with as many as eight reported candidates. Along with Allen, they are reportedly interviewing fellow Detroit assistant Rex Kalamian.

Other names linked to the Pistons’ vacancy:

Allen has also been head coach at Penn and played professionally overseas. He spent some time under Brad Stevens as an assistant with the Celtics as well.

The Pistons have no timeframe on when they will make a decision, GM Troy Weaver indicated. They are expected to begin the interview process this week.

“I think it’s my job to know what the team needs,” Weaver said, via James L. Edwards III of The Athletic. “A lot of time you’ll see, more often than not, people go the opposite way. If you had an offensive coach, you want a defensive coach. If you had a defensive coach, you want an offensive coach. You had an older guy, you want a younger guy. The right guy is the right guy. It doesn’t matter what he’s known for. The right guy is the right guy, and we’ll vet that out. Hopefully, we’ll get that going in the right direction soon.”
