Pistons' losing streak reaches NBA-record 27 consecutive games

Another day, another loss for the Detroit Pistons. Their latest defeat, a 118-112 loss at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets, is a historic one as it extends their current losing streak to an NBA-record 27 consecutive games within a single season.

At this point there is nothing else to say about this streak other than the entire situation is a mess. The Pistons have not won a game since Oct. 28 when they defeated the Chicago Bulls in their home opener to improve to 2-1.

They have not won since then, a streak that is now closing in on exactly two calendar months. What's even worse for the Pistons is that they really haven't even been all that competitive in most of their games.

Only 13 of the 27 losses through Tuesday were decided by less than 10 points, while they have lost four of the games by at least 20 points.

The Pistons held a five-point lead with just a little over eight minutes to play, giving the home fans some hope that they might finally see a win.

But Brooklyn ended up closing the game on a 26-15 run to send the Pistons into the infamous section of the league's record books.

There are no positives to take away from this mess as the Pistons are making history for all of the wrong reasons.

The Pistons are one of the small handful of teams in the NBA that are not even remotely close to competing for a playoff spot.

Including the Pistons there are five teams in the league with seven wins or less as of Tuesday — Detroit, Charlotte, Washington, Portland and San Antonio. The Spurs have managed to win only four games going into play on Tuesday.

The nature of the Pistons' historic losing streak, however, is what separates them from all of the other bottom teams in the league.
