Pelicans acquire CJ McCollum in massive seven-player trade with Trail Blazers

Only four days after shipping off Robert Covington and Norman Powell to the Los Angeles Clippers in a five-player blockbuster , the Portland Trail Blazers reportedly made an even more significant deal on Tuesday morning.

Since being selected 10th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft, McCollum has been a constant fixture in Portland's lineup alongside Damian Lillard in the backcourt. After playing 100 games and making just three starts over his first two seasons, the former Lehigh star took a jump in his third year, averaging 20.8 points, 4.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 80 games (all of them starts), earning the NBA's Most Improved Player of the Year in the process.

McCollum took it up a notch again during the 2016-2017 campaign, averaging 23.0 points per game and setting career highs in field goal (48.0%), three-point (42.1%) and free throw percentage (91.2%), with his success rate from the line leading all players in the league. In 36 games during the 2021-2022 season, the shooting guard has posted 20.5 points, 4.5 assists and a career-high 4.3 rebounds per contest.

In his seventh NBA season and first with the Trail Blazers, Nance hasn't played since Jan. 5 due to a knee injury, but has posted 6.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 23.2 minutes per game across 37 contests. Snell -- averaging 14.4 minutes per game in 38 contests -- is in his ninth year in the Association, fifth NBA team and fourth in the last four seasons.

Hart was picked 30th overall by the Utah Jazz in 2017 but was subsequently traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he spent the first two seasons of his career and played 130 games. The former Villanova Wildcat was traded to New Orleans in July 2019, and in 41 games this season, has averaged career-highs in points (13.4), rebounds (4.1) and minutes per contest (33.5), while posting a career-best 50.5% field goal percentage and ranking second on the squad in rebounds per game at 7.8.

A third-year pro and cousin of Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Alexander-Walker has already set career highs this season in games played (50) and games started (19), while he's currently averaging career-bests in points (12.8), rebounds (3.3) and assists per contest (2.8) as well. Satoransky has posted 15.0 minutes per game across 32 contests this season in a New Orleans uniform, while Louzada has played just five career NBA games in the last two seasons and is out indefinitely with a knee injury.

The Trail Blazers (21-33) and Pelicans (21-32) are separated by less than one game in the Western Conference standings at 10th and 11th place, respectively. New Orleans has won three straight, while Portland has lost five in a row.
