Pacers to waive Furkan Korkmaz
Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

The Indiana Pacers intend to waive shooting guard Furkan Korkmaz after he is officially acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Korkmaz was part of the trade that is sending shooting guard Buddy Hield to the Sixers. Forward Marcus Morris was also part of the agreement and is being traded from the Pacers to the San Antonio Spurs. Morris is expected to be waived as well.

Along with those two players, Indiana is landing three second-round picks — clearly the reason for the trade from the Pacers’ end.

Korkmaz, 26, fell out of the rotation in Philadelphia after being a regular from 2019-22. This season, he’s averaging just 2.5 points in 8.6 minutes. He is on an expiring $5.3 million contract.

So the Pacers will still be on the hook for that amount (at least when it comes to the salary cap), for the remainder of the season.

He will be eligible to sign with any team upon clearing waivers.
