New NBA Trade Intel Revealed On Jonathan Kuminga, Warriors
Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports

The Golden State Warriors aren’t shopping forward Jonathan Kuminga, according to NBA insider Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

“One of the exploratory conversations that surfaced, via ESPN, was a trade-up scenario involving Kuminga,” Slater wrote. “From my understanding, that was an inbound call from a team in the lottery that has registered regular interest in Kuminga dating back a year. Multiple team sources have been adamant that the Warriors aren’t shopping Kuminga around.”

Kuminga appeared in 67 games for the Warriors this past season. He averaged 9.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 52.5% from the field, 37.0% from beyond the arc and 65.2% from the free-throw line.

Golden State drafted Kuminga with the seventh overall pick in the 2021 draft.

The Warriors lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games after winning the championship last year. Kuminga only played in 10 postseason games, averaging 3.4 points.

“But continued league-wide interest in his talent attached to an unknown place in Kerr’s rotation as he nears his third season has put his future in question,” Slater wrote. “Kuminga for a top 10 pick would be a mini draft night blockbuster and could make sense if the Warriors love someone up in, let’s say, the Pacers range — Anthony Black perhaps? — but would only further reset the youth movement.”

The Warriors currently have the 15th overall pick in this year’s draft.

“I think JK had a really good year,” Kerr said on Tim Kawakami’s podcast with The Athletic. “You look at the regular season and he had a lot of good moments. The last 30 games or so with (Andrew) Wiggins out, it really thrust JK into a more prominent role. And he took advantage of that. He played well, helped us win some games.”
