Nets' Kyrie Irving fined $25K for directing obscene language toward fan at Cavaliers game

Superstar Kyrie Irving was unable to guide the Brooklyn Nets past the Cleveland Cavaliers, his former team, on Monday afternoon and has had financial insult added to that injury.

The NBA confirmed Thursday that Irving has been fined $25,000 "for directing obscene language toward a fan" in the second quarter of the contest that the Nets lost 114-107 in downtown Cleveland.

Irving was part of the Cavaliers team that famously erased a 3-1 series deficit to defeat the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals but forced his exit from Cleveland via a trade after the 2016-17 season, a decision that earned him criticism and scorn from many who call Northeast Ohio home. A video that went viral showed a fan heckling Irving during Monday's game, and the 29-year-old All-Star responded:

"Got y’all a championship and motherf-----s still ungrateful."

Irving's relationship with Cleveland will likely always remain complicated. While he hit one of the most clutch shots in Cavaliers history late in Game 7 of the 2016 Finals, he also seemed to toss shade at the region shortly after his trade to the Boston Celtics when he referred to his new basketball home as "a real, live sports city."

Regardless of what Irving thinks of Cleveland, Cavaliers fans can claim multiple wins over a hero-turned-villain this week.
