Monty Williams: Pistons have heard ‘all this stuff about our team and keep bringing it’

You can say the Pistons had one on Thursday night, when they built a 21-point lead over the mighty Celtics in Boston … before eventually losing in overtime.

That ties the NBA record over two seasons when it comes to consecutive losses. The Pistons already set the record for consecutive losses in a season at 27. In other words, the stand a chance to become the losingest team ever in this history books.

All it will take is more defeat. Their next game is Saturday night against the visiting Raptors.

At any rate, coach first-year coach Monty Williams gave his team an A for effort after the loss to the Celtics.

“I’m unbelievably proud of the group, the way they bring it,” Williams told reporters. “They’ve heard all the stuff about our team and they just keep bringing it. I know it’s going to pay off.”

How and when it will pay of is anyone’s guess. All the Pistons know is when they do get a win, they don’t want that to just mean the end of this nasty streak.

“I’m not interested in just winning one more game this year — you know what I mean? To stop this. That would be soft, in my opinion,” guard Cade Cunningham said.

“Our goals are a lot higher than that. We have what it takes to win a game, that’s nothing. But to put games together, to find our system, find what’s clicking and allow us to sustain winning. That’s all we’re looking for.”
