Memphis Grizzlies’ Rookie Shares Hilarious Victor Wembanyama Story

The 2023-24 NBA season has provided plenty of highlights for San Antonio Spurs rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama. On a nightly basis, he is doing something that defies conventional wisdom as his combination of size, length and basketball skill are normally reserved for the virtual world in video games.

Running away with the Rookie of the Year Award, Wembanyama’s production on the court has been fantastic. He is proving already to be a force on both ends of the court, as he is as difficult to defend offensively as he is to score on defensively.

Wembanyama has quite a legacy to follow, as the Spurs have had a few really good big men in recent history. It started with David Robinson, who eventually gave way to Tim Duncan, two of the best frontcourt players the NBA has ever seen.

Eventually, Wembanyama wants to reach the heights they did; winning championships and plenty of personal accolades. While winning hasn’t come yet, Wembanyama is following in their footsteps in one way already.

According to GG Jackson of the Memphis Grizzlies, Wembanyama excels at trash talking. Despite English not being his first language, the French star has already gotten comfortable with talking some trash to his opponents.

The Spurs and Grizzlies faced off on Wednesday night, with San Antonio coming away with a 102-87 victory. After the game, Jackson detailed a hilarious exchange of Wembanyama talking trash on the court. Wembanyama talks trash, but it is sometimes hard to hear it as he is so much taller than everyone else.

“He’s so high in the air. When he talks trash, he sounds like he’s whispering. He was like, ‘Go back up. Go. Go. You scared. You scared. You scared.’” Jackson said of Wembanyama at his locker after the game.
