While the Lakers have yet to make a big splash this summer, they have made a few notable additions to the roster.

Among the latest signees is young big man Jay Huff, who appeared in four games with the Lakers on a two-way contract in 2021-22. After a solid performance there and an ambitious showing in Summer League, the Lakers solidified his future by signing him to a deal on Wednesday.

The Lakers have signed center Jay Huff.

Huff appeared in 4 games for the Lakers last season on a two-way contract. He averaged 15.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks for South Bay and impressed in Summer League. He's a strong rim protector and capable outside shooter.

If there's one spot the Lakers need to improve the most, it's in the front court. Aside from Antony Davis, they don't have a quality, dependable big man to back them up under the rim. While it remains to be seen if Huff will be a part of the regular rotation, he could be worth giving some minutes if they roll out this roster in October.

"Obviously, I wanna show things that I've worked on, things that I've improved. I have a simple game. I shoot threes, I catch lobs, and I block shots," said Huff in a post-game presser earlier this month. "Everything else I've been trying to improve, but it's all stuff I feel like I need to keep doing at a high level. My job is to help this team win overall cause that's what's gonna get all of us a good shot at the next level."

As a young, 7’1" big man, Jay Huff isn't going to come in and change the game for L.A. The Lakers will need more if they want to compete for a title next season.

But, at the very least, he could help fill their front-court rotation and provide a small boost on both ends of the floor. During his stint with the South Bay Lakers, he averaged 15.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game on 64.1 percent shooting.
