Kyle Anderson triple-double leads Wolves over Hawks
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Anthony Edwards scored 32 points and Kyle Anderson had a triple-double to help the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves break their two-game losing streak with a 136-115 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.

Edwards, who grew up in Atlanta and played at the University of Georgia, was 12-for-25 from the floor with eight rebounds and five assists. Anderson had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists for his second triple-double of the season.

It was the first meeting between the two teams, who play again on March 22. Minnesota broke a five-game losing streak to Atlanta.

Minnesota also got 21 points from Mike Conley and 19 from Jaden McDaniels.

Atlanta was led by Trae Young, who scored 41 points on 15-for-25 shooting with seven assists. It was his third game this season with 40-plus points. He improved his scoring average against Minnesota to 33 points in nine games, the most for Young against any opponent.

The Timberwolves raced to a 40-29 lead after the first quarter, its fifth 40-point first quarter of the season. McDaniels had 10 points in the quarter, the third time he's done that this season.

Minnesota never saw its lead shrink below double digits in the second quarter and extended its lead to 24 points when Edwards was fouled on a 3-point shot with one second remaining. He made two of three free throws and the Timberwolves led 76-52 at halftime. Minnesota shot 62.5 percent in the first half.

The Timberwolves then led 106-85 going into the fourth quarter. It was the 11th time they have scored 100 points through three quarters. Atlanta never got closer 13 points the rest of the game.

Minnesota played without Naz Reid (left calf tightness), Jaylen Nowell (left knee tendinopathy) and Austin Rivers (back spasms). The Hawks were at full strength.

The Timberwolves play again at home on Wednesday against Boston. The Hawks are off until Friday when they host Golden State.
