Kareem Abdul-Jabbar reveals true feelings on LeBron James breaking his scoring record
NBA great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

With every passing day, we are one step closer to watching LeBron James sit on the throne of the greatest statistical scorer in NBA history. He is already the all-time leader in the regular season and playoff scoring combined, but now he is just 89 points away from claiming the regular season record all to himself.

The record has belonged to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar since 1984 and people were worried that Kareem might not be happy to see LeBron get this record at his expense. However, Kareem has already clarified that he won't treat LeBron the way Wilt Chamberlain treated him when KAJ was the one to break the record.

“When I broke Wilt Chamberlain’s scoring record in 1984 -- the year LeBron was born -- it bothered Wilt, who’d had a bit of a one-sided rivalry with me since I’d started doing so well in the NBA,” he wrote. “I don’t feel that way toward LeBron. Not only will I celebrate his accomplishment, I will sing his praises unequivocally.” (h/t AP)

Watching these players move past their rivalry is a good thing. Kareem might witness LeBron break the record against his former team, Milwaukee Bucks while playing for the other team he represented, the Lakers.

Is LeBron James The GOAT?

The second LeBron scored the points to put him over the top, a lot of discourse around who's the GOAT of the NBA will restart. While LeBron has the best case out of any other player to challenge Michael Jordan atop the pyramid, it seems many fans may be left unconvinced by this achievement catapulting LBJ ahead of Jordan.

If LeBron can win another championship, that'll be the only way for him to actually get fans to look at him as greater than Jordan. However, this accomplishment is nothing to underrate. Hopefully, we see this chapter of LVJ's career last for many more years.
