John Wall would 'welcome' a return to the Wizards?

John Wall may be seeing the light amid his lengthy basketball sabbatical.

David Aldridge of The Athletic reported Wednesday that the veteran point guard Wall may be looking to sign with an unexpected team — his former club, the Washington Wizards.

Aldridge says that Wall would “welcome” a return to Washington and has discussed the possibility of a reunion with those close to him and others around the league.

While still under contract with Houston, the five-time All-Star Wall has not played all season since the Rockets are in a developmental year. Wall can become a free agent this offseason if he declines his $47.4 million player option for next year (even though that is obviously a truckload of money to leave on the table).

The Wizards seemed to close the book on the Wall era after they dumped his contract on the Rockets in 2020. Wall, who played the first nine seasons of his career in Washington, also had some negative things to say about the Wizards on his way out the door.

But Wall, who hasn’t played in nearly a full calendar year, is quickly learning in Houston that the grass is not necessarily greener on the other side. The Wizards aren’t exactly a contending team either at 29-34 this season, so stranger reunions have definitely happened before.
