Jazz-Pelicans Injury Report: Simone Fontecchio Update
USA TODAY Sports

The Utah Jazz will finish their five-game road trip when they face the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night. Both teams could be missing a key contributor heading into the contest.

Simone Fontecchio is listed as questionable for the Jazz. As for the Pelicans, Larry Nance Jr. (ribs) is listed as questionable.

For the moment, the Jazz appear to have turned their season around. Utah has won its last six out of eight contests, with three of those wins being on the road.

A healthier team has certainly helped, but inserting shooting guard Collin Sexton in the starting lineup has given Utah stability at the shooting guard position. Over a span of eight games, Sexton is averaging 22.8 points on an efficient 50% from the field.

The domino effect of Sexton has moved shooting guard Jordan Clarkson back to the sixth-man role, which he is very familiar with. Although it’s a small sample size, Clarkson has put up a 30 and 24-point performance in two Jazz wins since the switch.

Sexton is a name that frequently comes up in trade rumors, but with the way he’s been performing, the Jazz may have discovered a permanent solution at the two position. However, one thing is certain: The Jazz still have a log jam in their backcourt.

To start the season, Kris Dunn was the odd man out of head coach Will Hardy’s rotation. Dunn is now the starting point guard, and it seems Talen Horton-Tucker is a player that’s on the outside looking in. How Hardy distributed the minutes in Utah’s backcourt is a storyline that Jazz fans should watch moving forward.

The tip-off tonight is at 6:00 p.m. MST.
