Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell clears concussion protocol after missing eight games

The Utah Jazz expect to have three-time All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell back in the lineup Friday night after he finally cleared the concussion protocol Thursday.

Mitchell, 25, suffered a concussion during Utah's 101-95 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Jan. 17 and reportedly saw a specialist earlier this week due to the persistence of his symptoms. The injury itself occurred when the Lakers' Russell Westbrook threw an errant pass and hit Mitchell in the head with an elbow in the process.

The Jazz went 2-6 in the eight games Mitchell missed, falling to 31-21 on the year. That's far from the only injury Utah has dealt with as of late, though. The team lost Joe Ingles to a torn ACL earlier this week and has been without Rudy Gobert for the last five games due to a calf injury.

Utah is set to host the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night at 9 p.m. ET.
