Hornets should cut ties with Miles Bridges after latest troubling incident

A court in Mecklenburg County issued an arrest warrant for Bridges for violating a protective order in January by illegally contacting the mother of his children. That's not all. A new criminal summons from Wednesday alleges that Bridges threw billiard balls at his former girlfriend's car, shattering the windshield, while his child was inside.

Bridges faces allegations of violating a domestic violence protective order, misdemeanor child abuse and injury to personal property during the incident, which took place at his home in Charlotte during a custody exchange. He's also facing allegations of letting his current girlfriend "yell, scream and kick the victim's car while the children were inside it" and of threatening his ex-girlfriend. Bridges allegedly told her that if she "told the police he would take everything from her and withhold child support."

On the eve of free agency in 2022, police arrested Bridges on felony domestic violence charges. He allegedly choked his girlfriend until she passed out, broke her nose and gave her a concussion — all in front of his two children. In November, Bridges pleaded no contest and received three years of probation. He was also required to attend 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling and parenting classes and faced a 10-year restraining order from his victim.

Now Bridges has allegedly violated the restraining order and his probation. If the allegations are true, he's once again displayed shocking violence in front of his children. This should be the end of his career in the NBA.

Charlotte gave Bridges a qualifying offer last season, just before his arrest. He didn't play for the entirety of the 2022-23 season, which the NBA considered when it gave him credit for serving 20 games of his 30-game suspension already. The Hornets brought him back on a one-year, $7.9 million deal in July.

At the time, Bridges thanked the hornets for giving him a second chance and apologized for causing "pain and embarrassment." 

He added, "This year away I’ve used to prioritize going to therapy and becoming the best person I can be — someone that my family and everyone here can be proud of."

Now it appears he'd already violated his restraining order months earlier. Now he's facing arrest and multiple new charges. Charlotte gave Bridges a second chance. He doesn't deserve a third.
