Dion Waiters reportedly OD'd on 'gummies,' had seizure on team plane
Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters was scratched from a Friday night game against the Los Angeles Lakers due to what was initially called an “illness.” However, in the subsequent hours after his game designation, a much clearer picture of his situation came into play.

Waiters was said to have suffered a “medical emergency” on the team’s flight from Phoenix to Los Angeles, and while a Heat spokesman refused to offer any specific details, Andy Slater of Fox Sports was able to unearth some additional information.

Slater reports that Waiters had overloaded on “gummies” and was passed out upon arrival to Los Angeles. When he was awoken, the guard reportedly suffered a seizure.

Waiters, who is in the third year of a four-year, $52 million contract, has missed the first nine games this season after having previously been suspended for conduct detrimental to the team.

The concern obviously rests with Waiters’ health, but the Heat certainly can’t be happy with these developments, especially considering there have apparently been several incidents this season that led up to his earlier suspension.
