Golden State Warriors trading Cory Joseph to Indiana Pacers
John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports

In one of a flurry of trade deadline moves around the NBA on Thursday, the Golden State Warriors have shipped veteran guard Cory Joseph to the Indiana Pacers, according to Shams Charania. It will be Joesph’s second stint with the Pacers franchise.

Joseph last played for the Pacers in 2019, after joining the team ahead of the 2017-18 season. His two seasons in Indiana were also the last two years he played all 82 games for a season. He had yet to make a start playing for Golden State this year and made just two playing for the Detroit Pistons the season prior.

Joseph, who played collegiately at Texas before being taken with the 29th pick of the 2011 draft by the San Antonio Spurs, has played for seven different NBA teams in his 13-year career.

He’s been an effective player in his career, earning solid roles in both Indiana and with the Toronto Raptors after leaving San Antonio, but eventually moved into a more rotational role in later years of his career. Joseph is an adept shooter, making 34.9% of his career 3-point attempts and has a 3-to-1 career assist to turnover ratio.

And in moving from Golden State to the Pacers, Joseph moves from a team fighting for play-in positioning in the Western Conference to a team already in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Pacers are currently the No. 6 seed in the east, sporting a 29-23 record that has them a game ahead of the Miami heat and just two back from the 76ers in the No. 5 slot.

Joseph is one of several moves for the Pacers on deadline day

With the arrival of the trade deadline in the NBA, it appears that Buddy Hield, one of the most-discussed players around this time of year, is already on the move.

Charania shared the report of the deal where the Indiana Pacers are sending Hield to the Philadelphia 76ers. Adrian Wojnarowski has since shared the details of the trade. Hield looks to be on the move for a pair of players and three second-round selections.

Hield is in the middle of his eighth season in the association as a former Top-10 pick out of Oklahoma. He left Norman as the program’s second all-time leading scorer and leader in three-point statistics. That collegiate career, especially his senior season, led him to be the No. 6 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Over that time in the NBA, Hield has played for the Pelicans, Kings, and Pacers. The City of Brotherly Love will now be his fourth home after being traded for the third time in his career.

In 600 career games, he has averaged 15.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. He has done so while shooting 43.4% from the field as a 40.1% shooter from three. That proficiency from deep has made him an asset as a professional as he has averaged 3.1 makes per distance.
